Cultivating Our Connections: INELDA’s Community Meet-ups

by Janine Cuthbertson

In January, INELDA introduced our Community Meetups, bringing members together for an hour to find belonging, inspiration, and connection. All INELDA members (Tiers 1-3) are invited and encouraged to drop in and connect.

Whether you are a new member, a longtime follower, or an INELDA-educated or INELDA-certified doula, we invite you to participate and become an engaged member of our global community. We welcome your individual gifts and experience, hope you feel fulfilled by the group, and find commonality among our members.

The feedback to the meetups has been great, and I was excited to recently receive a note from Kamala Nanda in San Francisco: “The meetup far exceeded my expectations, and now I’m feeling connection to greater energy and support to do this work! Looking forward to next month’s Zoom!” Each meetup has invigorated me in my newish role as membership coordinator and allowed other members time to get to know each other.

Every month we come together around a theme that allows for deeper discussion around deathcare and doula support—and for us to just get to know one another. The format always includes a breakout room with other members as well as a shared group conversation. Over the past few months, the Community Meetups have centered around topics such as Joys and Challenges, Deathcare in Your Community, Knowledge Share: Let’s Exchange Resources, and a screening of the documentary film A Good Death

These live and interactive gatherings were developed to create an environment to meet, share, and reflect. INELDA is excited to offer these opportunities for members to engage with one another and the organization. Due to the many locations of our members, we have been offering the meetups at various times to accommodate as many people as possible. Please share what times work best for you!

As always, we are open to your ideas about how we can continue to make this space your own. For example, Niki Staab shared: “I loved it. I think a second breakout session with another group would be great. The amount of time we had was the perfect start and gave us ample opportunity to exchange information.” If you have recently attended, we would love to hear any feedback at [email protected].

Community Meetups’ Upcoming Themes:

  • July: Spaces and Places: Where Do You Doula?
  • August: Remembering and Acknowledging Practice
  • September: Journaling Stories
