About this month’s meetup:
How do we want to be remembered, and what do or don’t want shared about ourselves after death? Join us with guest Ned Buskirk, creative writer and founder of You’re Going to Die in this hands-on writing workshop and conversation to write our own obituaries. We will consider our own mortality and use this experience to imagine how to support those we doula to write their obituaries.
Learn more about our guest Ned Buskirk and his non-profit You’re Going to Die:
In the upheaval of his mother’s death at 26, Ned Buskirk quit a promising career in business and moved to San Francisco, where he founded You’re Going to Die (YG2D), a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to bringing diverse communities into the conversation of death and dying in a creative way. YG2D offers a free creatively conscious mortality podcast, monthly live communal grief and gratitude open mics, medicinal community concerts, and grief and gratitude writing workshops.
YG2D’s hospice and music program, SONGS FOR LIFE, sends musicians to play for the dying, inspiring original songs honoring their lives and deaths. Buskirk also facilitates creative space for cancer patients with UCSF’s Art for Recovery, with workshops online and at the hospital bedside, offering a chance for healing through creative self-expression and witnessing that lets the patient be wholly and fully witnessed while facing what is often the hardest time of their lives.
Each meetup will be held for 1 hour via Zoom and led by an INELDA team member. We will meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
Our hour together may include a welcome ritual, interactive activities in break-out rooms to share, and collective reflection, so come ready to engage.

WEBINAR GUEST:
Alica Forneret | Founder & Executive Director of PAUSE
MODERATORS:
Erika Lim | INELDA Educator
Launched in the summer of 2020, in response to the murder of George Floyd by founder Alica Forneret, PAUSE’s mission is to create spaces that produce safe, culturally-specific, and expert-informed grief and end of life resources serving Communities of Color. Started as a resource newsletter, PAUSE has grown into a versatile organization, offering a blend of digital and in-person support to individuals, corporations, and deathcare professionals.
Join Alica and INELDA educator, Erika Lim (a PAUSE Startlight resident) in a powerful conversation about the roots of the organization, the necessity for grief resources for Communities of Color, and how PAUSE is strengthening networks of grief-informed professionals—from doulas and social workers to HR leaders—to rebuild systems of care that center dignity, belonging, and mutual aid.
From the development of community-based programs to end-of-life ecosystem mapping, discover the profound impact PAUSE is having in the LA-area and throughout the nation.
This month’s webinar is free for Tier 2 & 3 members.

Gathering Circle: A Space for Community, Grief, and Healing
On October 5th, INELDA is offering a gathering space for all members where community, grief, and healing can come together to sensitively hold the many crises on a global scale that we confront daily. As an organization committed to normalizing conversations around death, dying, loss, and grief; this gathering circle is created to provide space for these topics as we sit in company with one another. We hope to meet the issues of this time with a doula mindset. We will make space for feelings of sadness, rage, despair, anger, and inequities in a facilitated structure led by Amanda Faison, an INELDA-trained doula and co-founder of A&R Equity and hosted by INELDA Membership Coordinator Janine Cuthbertson.

Amanda Faison is an educator, facilitator, yoga and movement teacher, mother, and advocate for justice with extensive experience in creating learning and healing environments. Drawing on her background in education, the arts, and somatic practices, she curates spaces where our interconnected stories are honored, the fullness of the human experience is welcomed, and honest dialogue supports connection and collective healing in communities and organizations.

About this month’s meetup:
Join us to explore the beautiful artists Grief Deck to open conversations on grief, and practice how we might use these cards for ourselves and along our doula path. Artist and death doula Adriene Jenik, in partnership with the Artists’ Literacies Institute, co-created The Grief Deck with a diverse group of artists and grief workers. The 60-card deck has original artwork on the front of the cards, while the other side offers prompts and activities to address grief in daily life.

We welcome those actively serving in the role of doula—whether new to providing direct doula support or in the field for years. This group is offered to INELDA-trained or certified doulas with a current Tier 2 or 3 membership. If the membership creates a barrier to access, please email [email protected] to discuss options.

ABOUT THIS CLASS: Pathways to Practice is a six-week cohort-style led course to help empower you with the skills to build your unique doula practice and model of care. We have intentionally shifted away from the language of “business development” because the spectrum of doula care is vast and incorporates many ways to provide service beyond just the traditional business model. We will take learners through a discovery process of envisioning how they want to be a doula and be compensated for their care. We will guide you through trusted strategies for building a “plan for practice” that will help establish your vision for care, your definition of doula care, your impact, and the financial resources needed to sustain your practice. Lastly, participants will hear from a variety of practicing end-of-life doulas as they share their models for inspiration of paths already carved.

DATE: Thursday, August 20th
WHEN: 3-4 pm ET
WHERE: Virtual Zoom Meetings
Already registered for this group? We will send a reminder a few hours before the meetup with the Zoom link to attend.
Get to know others in your INELDA doula community through small member groups, introduction to new tools and approaches, and shared stories. Bring your joys, fears, excitement, and curiosity. The meetups will be varied in style and include connecting in breakout groups, partner and member presentations, self-care offerings, and opportunities to practice your doula approach.
About this month’s meetup:
A life-limiting diagnosis often sets off alarm bells for financial and legal professionals. There are documents to update, decisions to make, and plans to revisit. But while advisors are trained to move quickly, their clients may still be processing fear, grief, uncertainty, and change. Join Janine Cuthbertson, INELDA Membership with guest Rose Zealand, INELDA-trained End-of-Life Doula and Certified Financial Planner™, for an insider’s look at the financial planning profession’s experience of mortality and the vital role doulas play in helping clients bridge the gap between emotional readiness and practical action. The discussion will also include opportunities for collaboration and self-reflection around our own relationship with money and financial advice.
Rose Zealand is a certified financial planner, certified financial transitionist, and end-of-life doula who has built a unique practice at the intersection of money, mortality, and meaning. She serves clients throughout Colorado.
Through Golden Thread Collaborative, she supports individuals and families navigating serious illness, caregiving, aging, grief, end-of-life planning, and the many financial, logistical, emotional, and existential challenges that accompany these experiences. Her work is grounded in a simple observation: When mortality enters the conversation, every other conversation changes.
Each meetup will be held for 1 hour via Zoom and led by an INELDA team member. We will meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
Our hour together will include a welcome ritual, interactive activities in break-out rooms to share, and collective reflection, so come ready to engage.
Members can register for Community Meetups by clicking the button below.
*by registering for the Community Meetup group, you will receive access to recurring Zoom meetings and a reminder email on the day of the event. You will only have to register once.

Gathering Circle: A Space for Community, Grief, and Healing
On October 26th, INELDA is offering a gathering space for all members where community, grief, and healing can come together to sensitively hold the many crises on a global scale that we confront daily.
