As we begin to program for 2023, INELDA is interested in supporting the emerging end-of-life doula field by training in locations that may not be currently served by doulas, as well as locations that have a high demand.

INELDA, in partnership with Garden Spot Village, held our first in-person training in 2 years. 68 people joined together in New Holland, Pennsylvania for INELDA’s End-of-Life Doula Training on September 8th, 2022. The three-day training was met with much enthusiasm and a willingness to engage, reflect and share.

Dr. Jamie Eaddy Chism, director of program development, and Kris Kington-Barker, director of special programs led the training. Together they explored foundational doula principles; deep active listening and empathy; common issues facing death (cultural humility); meaning and legacy work; vigil planning; guided imagery; signs and symptoms of dying; rituals and ceremonies; early grief work; self-care for doulas; and next steps to serving as doulas. For those interested in continuing this work and becoming an INELDA-certified doula, we are relaunching our certification program this fall.

Garden Spot Village is an active and dynamic retirement community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They offer end-of-life doula services to residents and their families. INELDA connected with Garden Spot Village through Marian Harnish who serves as an end-of-life doula with a focus on legacy at Garden Spot Village. Marion trained with INELDA in October of 2020 and it was her dream to host an INELDA training in her work community.

As we begin to program for 2023, INELDA is interested in supporting the emerging end-of-life doula field by training in locations that may not be currently served by doulas, as well as locations that have a high demand. We offer scholarships for trainings, memberships, and certification.  If you are interested in bringing an INELDA training to your community, please contact us at [email protected]
