RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY

Amy Shields is an anthropology graduate student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham doing a master’s thesis on end-of-life doulas. She is specifically interested in how doulas interact with other doulas and with the various people also involved in caring for dying persons, such as health care professionals, hospice volunteers, clergy members, and family members. The objective is to identify the role that in-person and virtual communities play in supporting doulas and helping them interact more effectively with their clients.

If you would be willing to sit down for a confidential interview by phone or Zoom, please contact Amy at [email protected] or 205-253-0941, and she will provide you with more information. Thank you!

BECOME AN INELDA SUSTAINER

BECOME AN INELDA SUSTAINER

Help us reach our October fundraising goal with a monthly gift of $5, $10, or more! Did you know that INELDA has trained over 7,500 doulas globally? As part of our deep commitment to strengthening access to compassionate deathcare for all, we have provided over 350 need-based scholarships for our courses totaling more than $225,000, offered pro bono training to community groups and organizations, provided grants to peer organizations serving marginalized communities, and more.

This month, we are working to bring on at least 10 new monthly donors and invite you to become an INELDA sustainer today! A monthly gift of $5, $10, $35, or $50 or more will, over the next 12 months, help INELDA:

  • Expand access to end-of-life doula education by providing 100-plus need-based scholarships
  • Meet gaps in deathcare by training more than 2,000 doulas embedded in communities nationally and internationally
  • Promote the presence of end-of-life doulas and INELDA’s doula approach within systems of care by training hospice and care facility staff
