In addition to his love of learning, Greg Hedler has a passion for theater arts, both performance and production, and he holds a bachelor’s in this field. Theater has been a great teacher for him of what it is like to both create and complete experiences. He enjoys baking for fun, and he holds the prize role of uncle to several young people, which brings him great joy.
“I believe that loss is a constant state of being human and that the honoring of grief is a crucial part of holding the fullness of life—living in light of death and dying in the presence of life. I was 25 when my best friend died of cancer. This was the first death I fully experienced, and it placed me in a state of vulnerability, confusion, and curiosity. I recently came across writing I did during that time and rediscovered these words: I choose to fall in love with you, Death. It was all that was left to do.”
Greg is a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 20 years of experience in pediatric oncology and hematology. He feels privileged to offer his presence to children and families moving through the realities of diagnoses, and has partnered with several pediatric oncology nonprofit organizations to facilitate workshops and retreats supporting mothers and families moving through experiences related to both the diagnosis and the death of their child. That work led him to complete his EOL doula certification with INELDA in 2024, offering him additional ways to engage the community around death, dying, and grief.
He holds postgraduate certifications in applied positive psychology from The Flourishing Center and another in Bowen Family Systems Theory from Rutgers University, and he has also completed executive coaching certification through Presence Based Coaching with additional coaching certifications through The Flourishing Center and Avalon Coaching Institute. He is certified in a variety of integrative health modalities and incorporates mind-body connection into his clinical care. Greg seeks to empower individuals to cope better in the face of adversity while inviting people to live life with fullness.
