This April’s webinar Communication Skills Lab: Role-Playing Difficult Dialogues will be an active role playing workshop to improve your doula skills! Compassionate Coaching founder, Erin Whalen and a member of her team, role player Elizabeth Jernigan will act out scenarios that you may have experienced supporting the dying. If you have a scenario that you hope to learn from, bring your story, and workshop the situation with these professional actors. This will give you the opportunity to recreate and practice alternative outcomes. Utilize tools to become confident in your approach when supporting others at end of life. Come experience this professional team that trains medical staff around the country to handle difficult conversations and scenarios.
You will have the opportunity to practice having difficult conversations with the role players, try new approaches to see how things land, and—most importantly—hear the insights from the role player themselves. Don’t have a scenario, come learn by watching others. We will have the opportunity to role play 3-4 scenarios during the evening. Come prepared to share and grow together.
Additional details: If you are open to sharing your scenario, you will act in the role of the doula with the actors to practice your communication approach. This is a judgement-free zone and all are encouraged to learn from each situation.
A note for Tier 1 members: This April webinar is included free in your membership. We look forward to seeing you!
Guest Speaker Bios:

Erin Whalen is the Founder and CEO of Compassionate Coaching. She and her team make it easier for people to talk about grief with their creative and compassionate approach using Grief Improv Theatre. Before founding Compassionate Coaching in the fall of 2020, Erin spent 14 years as a professional actress and role player, particularly in medical education. She uses that background — as an actor, trainer, facilitator, and Playback Theatre practitioner — to develop highly interactive, cathartic, and memorable programming that centers around giving and receiving empathy. Erin uses her own experiences with grief, particularly her sister, Gina’s, death in 2016, and her lifelong relationship with anticipatory grief, to infuse her work with empathy and compassion.
